Sectigo InstantSSL vs InstantSSL Pro vs Premium: Differences and Prices
· Comparison
Sectigo's organization validated (OV) certificate family includes three products that look almost identical: InstantSSL, InstantSSL Pro and InstantSSL Premium. Different names, different prices. So what is actually different?
The short answer: technically, all three give you the same certificate. The real difference is the warranty amount. In this article we go through the differences one by one and explain how to choose the one that fits you.
The Three Products Side by Side
| Feature | InstantSSL | InstantSSL Pro | InstantSSL Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Validation | OV | OV | OV |
| Coverage | Single domain | Single domain | Single domain |
| Warranty | $50,000 | $100,000 | $250,000 |

What Is the Same
- Validation process: For all three, Sectigo checks your company's legal name, address and legal existence. The company details are written into the certificate, and visitors can see them in the certificate details.
- Encryption: All of them use the same 256-bit encryption. A more expensive certificate does not mean stronger encryption.
- Browser compatibility: All three chain to the same root certificate and are trusted the same way in every modern browser. What visitors see in the address bar does not change.
- Approval time: Organization validation usually takes 1-3 business days. The more expensive product is not approved faster.
The Difference: Warranty
The warranty is a guarantee that applies if the certificate authority (CA) issues a certificate in error and your site's visitors lose money because of it. It does not cover your server being hacked or a problem on your website.
Claims like this are very rare in practice. The warranty amount works more as a trust signal: some corporate customers, tenders or contracts may require a certificate above a certain warranty amount.
Which One Should You Choose?
- InstantSSL ($41.00): The most sensible choice if you want your company to be validated and have no specific warranty requirement. It is enough for most businesses looking for an OV certificate, and it is the cheapest way to get an InstantSSL certificate.
- InstantSSL Pro ($66.77): If a customer, partner or contract requires a warranty of $100,000 or more.
- InstantSSL Premium ($94.05): For cases that require a $250,000 warranty, such as sites taking high-value payments or corporate procurement specifications.
In short: if you have no written requirement for a warranty amount, choosing the cheaper one costs you nothing.
If You Don't Need Company Validation
If all you need is for your site to open over HTTPS with a padlock in the address bar, you don't need an OV certificate. The domain validated (DV) Sectigo PositiveSSL is issued in minutes and offers the same encryption. We explain the differences in DV, OV, and EV Certificate Differences.
